Frequently Asked Questions

Don't I have to learn to surf first?

Experience of surfing does help in assessing weather conditions and wave selection. Indeed any exposure to water sports and the sea (including sea fishing!) will help. Kite surfing though, I would say, is learning mainly about flying a kite. I thoroughly recommend that any would be kite surfer practices with a trainer kite (such as the Flexifoil Quark) of about 2m sq. It is never possible to spend too long practicing with a trainer power kite. The better a pilot you are the more time you will spend on the board; standing that is!

What is included in the lesson price?

We supply the quiver of kites, harnesses, Board, Life Vests and Helmets. In addition the lesson costs include your insurance, emergency radio and phone, first aid kit and ongoing IKO instructor training. You must only supply your own wet or dry suit.

How often?

We are presently concentrating on running courses weekly.

What if there is no wind?

The lesson's syllabus is designed to equip the learner with all the skills to kite safely. It is not necessary to have wind to accomplish that.

Sometimes there is too little wind, sometimes too much, sometimes too unpredictable and sometimes blowing in the wrong direction.

Accommodation & travel

I personally recommend Arte Vida Hotel in Tarifa; Beachland's in Weston Super Mare; Best Western in Aberavon, and: O'Grady's in Redcar.

IKO syllabus & safety

You will get an IKO card at the end of your course and will be invited to complete an IKO feedback form by email.
